Text Box: Official Opening Ceremony The Christmas Tree Industry of Nova Scotia now has its own Interpretive Center located in New Ross, Lunenburg County. This center will proudly display the past, present and future of the Nova Scotia Christmas Tree Industry. Over 100 people attended the official opening on May 4, 2005. Brenda Keddy, of the New Ross Regional Development Society was Master of Ceremonies and introduced the guest speakers. Judy Stretch, acting in behalf of MP Gerald Keddy, opened The Center. Lisa Wolf, of Ross Farm and Gary Selig, of The Desbrisay Museum unveiled the sign. Rick Young represented NS Dept. Tourism, Culture & Heritage. Miles McPherson, President of The Christmas Tree Council of Nova Scotia presented a $1,000.00 check to the Center. Councilor Cheryl Scott of the Municipality of Chester presented the Center with a $15,000.00 check. Marty Murphy, a director of the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Producers Association and Bill Smith, Director Extension Services DNR planted a 3 ft. Nova Scotia Balsam Fir. Mike Falkenham, President of the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Association and Gina McDow, New Ross Regional Development Society cut the ribbon opening the Center. Refreshments and tours were enjoyed by all, as many members commented on the many exhibits and explained the history of the industry, bringing it to our present era.
